ABOUT ME
DANCE/MOVEMENT
I have 30 years of experience with a variety of dance and movement styles, including contemporary & modern dance, jazz, hiphop, afro contemporary and capoeira. I’ve also worked as a capoeira teacher. Since 2020, I’ve been a part of Ndjara Dance Company, an afro-contemporary dance company based in Helsinki. I created and performed my first solo performance, Anima, in 2025 and I’m developing it for more performances and video material. Currently I’m exploring butoh dancing. For me, the most interesting elements in movement at the moment are improvisation and combining movement with visual elements and music that I create.
MUSIC
I’ve been performing as a singer occasionally with different bands and musicians for more than 15 years, styles varying from alternative rock, blues, jazz and soul to samba and capoeira music, as well as participated in recording different genres of music as a singer/background singer/percussionist. I’m a singer in the two-person band Roska, for which I have also co-written all of our original songs and all the lyrics. Recently I started to compose music for my own performances and videos and enjoy creating soundscapes for different purposes. My first solo EP will be out in 2025!
ACADEMIA
Although I have danced and made music all my life, my degree and work career are mostly on the academic side. I have a PhD in philosophy (ethics of considerable human life extension). I currently work at the University of Helsinki. I’m the founder of Safer Climate, a network working at the intersection of science, civil society and arts and aiming to create new spaces for climate discussion and action. I work with multiple artists, arts organizations and cultural actors to bring together art and research, especially in terms of climate change and the environment. Safer Climate collaborators include IHME Helsinki, Helsinki International Film Festival Love and Anarchy, Artists with Evidence and many others.
My areas of expertise regarding climate change are related to security, conflicts, death, psychosocial aspects of climate change and the role of art and civil society in climate security. I have 15+ years experience of coordinating international transdisciplinary collaborations in the academia and beyond. I’ve worked as an expert in several national, EU level and international working groups and projects. This page is for my artistic work but feel free to reach out for academic inquiries via university channels.
CIVIL SOCIETY work
I have work experience in many NGOs and humanitarian organizations, including working with asylum seekers and volunteers in Finland for the Finnish Red Cross, and visiting the West Bank as a human rights accompanier. As part of my work and volunteering experience, I'm also trained in issues related to mental health and psychosocial wellbeing. I’m a trained volunteer educator of International Humanitarian Law although I’m not active in that role currently. In my current work, I collaborate with numerous civil society organizations and actors. I’m also a proud adopter and foster home of several rescue cats during the years. :)
If you want to call me an activist you can, but to me it’s just common sense and empathy!
